Hansaplatz by Heidi Specker & Heinz Peter Knes – mail art project
Hansaplatz is a 28-page A5 publication by Heinz Peter Knes and Heidi Specker, edited by Leonie Herweg (GROTTO). Knes and Specker show the urban space, their neighbourhood, from a personal, yet documentary perspective. The pictures are complemented by their conversation, which is dedicated to the writers Ingeborg Bachmann and Witold Gombrowicz - both lived in the Hansaviertel neighbourhood in the 1960s on a scholarship from Akademie der Künste.
The publication was designed by Lina Grumm (HIT) and production was financed thanks to adverts from local companies and institutions. At the beginning of May, 1,300 copies were distributed unaddressed as mail art to all households in Hansaviertel - as a gift to the neighbourhood and an invitation to look at the district through different eyes.
